About this property
Spacious three-bedroom, two-bathroom Federation home in the leafy artists' precinct of Launceston. Trevallyn on Gorge boasts extensive views of the Tamar River. Minutes away from cafe culture and the wilderness trails of Cataract Gorge.
THE DETAILS...
Trevallyn on Gorge, built in 1900, is a majestic property set high on the hill, commanding outstanding views over the Tamar River to the north and Launceston city and surrounding mountains to the south-east. It is about 1.5km to the heart of Launceston and less to Cataract Gorge, for all of those nature enthusiasts.
The space consists of three large bedrooms (2 queen beds, and 2 king single beds - all linen is supplied.) There are two bathrooms, one with a large spa bath (towels supplied). Each bedroom has plenty of storage space for guest use. There is also a laundry washing machine and copious line space under cover on the outdoor entertaining area.
The spacious lounge area has a bay window that looks out onto the tiered front garden, which displays beautiful greenery and colour all year round. The lounge room boasts 12 foot ceilings, making it reminiscent of a time long ago when Ladies and Lords invited city folk into their parlours. A lovely place to sip on tea, read a book, listen to some great music.
The house comes with a fully-equipped kitchen and dining area, with magnificent views over the city and river. Note the quality Bosch kitchen appliances; a chef's dream (or so my husband says!) Guests also have access to the upstairs verandah and an outdoor entertaining space. A great place to enjoy an afternoon aperitivo with your friends and family.
The established gardens are something out of a 1900 Dickens or Bronte novel! Our caretaker (and artist-in-residence) tends the gardens weekly, ensuring that fruits trees do their job and the rose garden blooms in its full glory. Work will be undertaken soon to commence a community garden below where the guest parking is.
GUEST ACCESS
Guests have access to the full upstairs house; 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large lounge room, wraparound verandahs, kitchen and dining, laundry, outdoor entertaining area and all gardens (front and back).
PARKING
There is space for two cars parked end-to-end. Park down to the left in the lower carpark. The upper space is for our neighbours in no.4. We'll send further parking details in your arrival message.
INTERACTION WITH GUESTS
We may not be on site to greet you but our caretaker lives in the apartment below. She will be more than happy to assist with any queries during your stay. She is not a concierge and cannot help you with luggage. We will be contactable by phone, text and email before and during your stay..
UNIVERSAL ACCESS
Trevallyn on Gorge was not built with universal access in mind but, depending on mobility challenges, guests may find it suitably accessible. From the carpark there is a slight decline to the front of the house, two steps down and then four steps up to the front verandah. The verandah and hallway can accommodate a wheelchair easily. Both bathrooms have showers for easier access as well. There is also a shower stool. There are no stairs within the house. Access to the outdoor entertaining area is down two stairs and up one stair. Access to the back garden area is by steps and uneven path; it is not suitable for wheelchair access.
Registered Canine Assistance Animals (eg, 'guide dog') are permitted to stay in the house provided this is necessary for the welfare of the owner/handler (per C'th DDA 1992/2005). There would no additional cleaning fee. Whilst not set up as a 'pet-friendly' property, the back yard is securely fenced and gated to contain a well-trained dog. Guests are asked to appropriately dispose of all animal waste from the yard; leaving animal waste in the yard may result in loss of security bond. Please call us ahead of your visit if you plan to bring a Registered Canine Assistance Animal. Pet animals are not permitted on the property.
THE NEIGBOURHOOD
Trevallyn is the precinct for local creators - artists, wood turners, photographers. The views have inspired many landscape artworks over the last century.
We are just a short walk downhill to Kings Bridge which leads you to the start of the boardwalk to Cataract Gorge. We are only about 1.5km from town - a good walk downhill but a bus or taxi back up unless you're fit (or want to get that way)!
6 doors up you will find the Trevallyn shops (see photos for more details). At Trevallyn Shopfront (also online), you will find quirky treasures and trinkets for discerning home owners and ladies with fashion sense and style. The deli and grocer offer wonderful local food and wine, and you can find good coffee and great breakfast and lunch options at the cafe. The shops also include a gourmet bakery, a pharmacy, post office, and a hairdresser. Something for everyone!
