About This Attraction
The Oast House, in New Norfolk, celebrates the Derwent Valley, which has been growing Australia's finest hops since 1822. It includes a restaurant and cafe, the Hop Museum and a Craft Market.
Originally, oast houses were used to dry the hops, and today throughout the Derwent Valley you can still see these large wooden buildings; however, they are no longer used for hop drying - some have been converted to barns others to private homes.
The Oast House Restaurant and Cafe, is fully licensed and serves morning and afternoon teas and lunch, seven days a week from 0900 to 1800. The restaurant offers modern Tasmanian fare in a 19th century setting.
The Hop Museum tells the story of how beer has been brewed since the 6th century B.C. through to today.
The Oast House Craft Market is on the old oast cooling floor and offers a range of local produce and products from the Derwent Valley and regional Tasmania.
