Markree House Museum and Gardens

Markree House Museum and Gardens, Hobart, explores the early 20th century arts and history. Markree Museum is a historical jewel located in central Hobart, where visitors can explore the art, decorative arts and social history of the early 20th century. The museum was established through a significant bequest left to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and the people of Tasmania by Mr Henry Baldwin. Markree Museum and its many treasures can be explored during pre-booked guided tours, where visitors can enjoy the beautiful grounds and garden and see permanent exhibitions of Tasmanian history and period rooms. The museum also features regularly changing exhibitions of the art and decorative arts of the early 20th century. The museum is located at Markree, a 1920's heritage listed home, which was designed by well-known Tasmanian architect Bernard Ridley Walker. Markee is a fine example of early 20th century architecture in the Arts and Crafts style and is complimented by extensive gardens.
