About this property
Welcome to our beautiful home. Everything is designed to be aesthetic, practical, & eco-friendly. The house is as natural as possible: wood floors, wool carpets, linen curtains, double glazed windows, brass fittings; we use organic cleaning products. Our attitude is generosity. Enjoy fantastic views of the mountain and the Derwent river. Everything in the house is designed to be aesthetically pleasing. You have a lot of privacy - there is some distance from the neighbours. Kids are very welcome.
We had fun designing our house. We wanted to take advantage of the wonderful vista. We also wanted to keep the beautiful trees on the property. In fact we planted 100 more trees, and put in bird boxes and baths, and a lovely granite basin fountain in the front yard. Every aspect of the design took into account ecological values - from the extra insulation through to the use of natural products, fibres and oils. We have a brass theme throughout, and have finished it off with our favourite artworks on the walls.
The living room/kitchen area is floored with TasOak; we have a large Persian carpet in the living area, with two sofas, TV and a velvet chair. The kitchen counter is Brazilian granite - looks like a work of art, and above the dining table is a unqiue crystal lamp. This area opens out to a very large covered verandah with glass balustrades; the views are constantly changing, and theres always a fresh breeze.
We are kid friendly, so you are welcome to bring your children (at no extra cost); there is a trampoline in the yard and two beds for children in the third bedroom.
We have a generous pantry; you are welcome to use things you find in there - oil, vinegar, condiments, herbs, etc.
We have an attitude of generosity to guests. Although we won't be there, we want you to feel comfortable and welcome, and so we don't skimp on anything.
The internet is lightening fast - 100mbs.
We have a lovely HiFi system you can connect to with your phone or computer in order to stream your music.
You can expect a house that is 5 star clean. Many Airbnb’s state ‘sparkling clean’, but in our experience, that is often merely a box people tick.
In contrast, we are meticulous about providing you a really clean house. We wash everything between guests - pillow and mattress protectors, quilt covers; we clean under furniture…we do everything to give you a *truly* sparkling clean space.
You can see this reflected in the cleaning fee; actually we pay more in cleaning than we charge you - we don't pass on the full amount. We are committed to providing a beautiful, comfortable and fresh house for you.
The living room is open plan, with the dining table adjacent. The kitchen is fully functional, with oven, fridge, stove, espresso pot, toaster and plenty of quality cookware. The water is filtered through a high quality filter, and can be either room temperature or instant hot. We do ask that vegetarian meals only are to be cooked in our home.
You will have a very comfortable king bed in a room that is clean and fresh. There is a storage closet with hangers, and an iron is available. All the beds are quality crafted using Tasmanian oak, and made locally. The mattresses are also made in Tasmania and furbished with natural cotton. Sleeping on them is a dream.
The bathrooms have toilets complete with modern Japanese seats - heated so very comfy, there is a shower and separate large bathtub. We provide all necessary toiletries and towels.
There is parking in the carport.
We have a washing machine, dryer, and both a covered and an outdoor clothes line.
We use organic and ecological cleaning products, and like to do our bit for the ecosystem. We separate out recycling, compost, and rubbish.
We have panel heaters in the bedrooms and bathrooms, and a lovely wood pellet heater in the living room, which keeps the house toasty in winter. It only requires refilling from a bag of pellets; it starts at the push of a button. The house is very well ventilated, but just in case theres a hot spell, we have fans in the bedrooms.
We have several large vege garden beds; you are welcome to pick fresh vegetables and herbs from them. We also have a herb garden next to the house which you are welcome to pick from.
Wallabies love our property and come to visit the yard every night and morning, so you will see them hopping around.
Our priority is that guests enjoy the space, relax and have a ‘homey' experience in our place.
>>Outside
You can walk from our house along a little trail to the waterfront (around 15 minutes), or its less than 3 minutes there by car. Once there you can walk or cycle along the foreshore for a total of 30km, passing by the Tasman Bridge and a number of beaches.
You can also walk in the other direction along the waterfront, which takes you through a reserve.
Additionally, on the hill behind our house is a large bush reserve, along which there are also walking trails.
The nearest shopping centre is 5 minutes drive away.
>>Interaction with Guests
You will have the house entirely to yourself.
We are currently away (time with our grandsons), so if you have any questions or needs, please contact our housekeeper. She will deal with any on-the-ground issues. We have an extensive house manual, which hopefully addresses most questions you might have when you arrive.
>>The Neighbourhood
Geilston Bay is on the Eastern Shore of Hobart, so you cross the bridge to get to the CBD. Its 10 minutes by car to the city centre. We are only 20 minutes from the airport, and on the way to destinations such as the Tasman Peninsula. The suburb is very quiet, well established, and surrounded by bush.

>>Story
I (Steve) grew up in Hobart, and left for the mainland as soon as I finished High School. In between, we have travelled many places in the world, including living in the US for a while. We raised our kids on the North Coast of NSW - Byron Bay area, which is sub tropical; we came to Hobart a few years ago because Sutara appreciates a cooler climate... and it was here or New Zealand!
We have travelled a great deal, love exploring new cultures, and especially enjoy hiking; theres lots of that available in Tassie! We are into fitness, meditation, ecological values and self awareness.
We have appreciated being able to stay at Airbnb homespaces around the world, so are happy to offer our place to travellers. We have had both good and not-so-great experiences as guests ourselves, so we know what is important in offering a place: being very welcoming as hosts; a relaxed atmosphere; a clean, comfortable, well equipped space, with everything working properly; and a great location. We are happy to offer all of this to you.
