IdleWild...(formerly known as Freycinet View)
IdleWild's dramatic settting overlooks a nine mile beach framed by the Freycinet Mountains.
Idle a while cocooned in comfortable, colourful, mid century interiors or walk on the wild side with an ocean swim or bike ride with your pets along the empty beach and later curl up with a glass of wine by the cosy wood stove.
If you are a looking for somewhere to stay that has a stunning location, privacy, comfort, a proper kitchen and has a bit of personality, come and Idle in the wild..
Not even mentioning that it is both pet and kid friendly with gates preventing beach access from the house and a pet fenced one acre immediately around the house.
30 minutes to Freycinet National Park and Bicheno. 40 minutes to Maria Island Ferry and minutes to the restaurants and wineries around Swansea, this is the perfect base to explore Tasmania's East Coast or to just enjoy the local restaurants and wineries whilst relaxing in your own private beach house getaway.
IdleWild offers comfortable accommodation for 4 adults but can cater for 6 with three bedrooms, a bathroom with shower, two toilets and laundry, all in the downstairs area.
Previous guests often comment on how comfortable the beds are!
The bedrooms comprise king bed, queen bed and a double bed configuration. 100% cotton sheets and towels are provided. You will need to bring your own beach towels. All beds have foam and down/feather toppers and down/feather pillows. If you are allergic to down there are replacement synthetic pillows available.
The cosy upstairs living area features a large sofa, a mid century chaise longue and a giant floor cushion as well as a wood fire (with as much firewood as you want) digital Smart TV - with Netflix, Prime, Disney and Stan.
There are also books and games and a Bluetooth/WIFI Bose Soundtouch speaker for music streaming.
It has a modern well equipped cooks' kitchen that includes a dishwasher, combi microwave, oven and induction cooktop. An electric BBQ is outside on the deck. A new addition is an automatic De Longhi Coffee Machine. Please refer to all instructions. The cooktop has a child lock.
In the pantry is some decent coffee with a range of Twinings foil teabags (EB, Green, Lemon & Ginger, Peppermint) and some Hot Chocolate. Olive Oil, Balsamic, salt, ground pepper, sugar, plain white flour and a jar of muesli. Plus cleaning products including dishwasher tablets and clothes washing detergent.

Fresh oysters (and champagne) are available just 5 kms along Dolphin Sands Rd direct from Melshell Oysters. Get your oysters almost immediately after they have been harvested from Great Oyster Bay. Their oyster caravan is open from 10am to 4pm daily, for eat-there or take-away. Or ride your bikes there...
The Waterloo Inn has recently opened in Swansea (10 minutes drive or also a possible bike ride) and is fast gaining a fabulous reputation under it's enthusiastic young new team.
The Saltshaker does great thin crust pizza (takeaway or eat in) and the Horny Cray a tasty fish and chips.
There are 6 local wineries with cellar door tastings, and some with food including Mel’s Kitchen and Devils Corner. You can also book at table for dinner at Piermont which is 15 minutes drive.
Gala Estate Cellar Door also sells merino wool goods along with its delicious wine.
Two IGA supermarkets and a bottle shop in Swansea allow for self catering without having to pre plan.
Get Active..
Whilst you are our guests, IdleWild and its five acres are solely yours to enjoy. Nine Mile Beach is as long as its name suggests and it is likely you will have it to yourself most of the time.
The property is fully fenced with a further internal one acre around the house fenced off for your pet to play in.
You are welcome to grab one of our bikes and take a ride along the beach…you can ride to Swansea if you like, crossing the Meredith River at low tide.
The gardens here a full of native plants and trees and are a wildlife haven..wallabies skip across the dunes at dusk, whilst you will probably not miss the possums either! It is home to innumerable birds of all sizes and shapes and colours and song.
We have room for a boat here with three places nearby for launching. At the North end of Dolphin Sands road there is an easy launch into Moulting Lagoon and from there you go into Great Oyster Bay and catch all the flathead you want!
Freycinet National Park is about a 30 minute drive for the famous walk to Wine Glass Bay and for the more adventurous an excellent scramble up Mount Amos for incredible views across the park.
