About this property

Immerse in the vibe of Tasmania’s colonial past in the meticulously restored and renovated c1850 ‘Devonshire House’ peacefully nestled within footsteps of North Hobart’s trendy eateries and a ten-minute wander to the CBD. High ceilings, cosy fireplaces and timber flooring set the scene throughout a grand layout with formal living and dining rooms combined with a sleek contemporary kitchen and bathrooms ensuring your stay delivers an idyllic mix of luxury, elegance and convenience.
Devonshire House, originally the residence of the notorious John Price before he went on to command the even more notorious Norfolk Island convict establishment, is a landmark Edwardian residence steeped in colonial history. Subsequently, author Marcus Clark used the story of John Price as a model for his character in Captain Frere in the acclaimed novel “For the Term of His Natural Life”.

There are no skeletons here, but you can feel the ambience of yesteryear at every turn enhanced by exposed original timber doors, multi-paned sash windows, and rich designer colour schemes. Spread over two floors with views of the Hobart skyline from the upper level, it includes a formal lounge room with sofas and armchairs and offers a flat-screen TV complemented by an elaborate gas fireplace and chandelier.

The banquet-sized dining room is a real showstopper with its eight-seater timber table and cosy gas fireplace set underneath an antique candelabra. Sleek stainless steel benchtops line the kitchen, complete with a breakfast island, and include all the equipment you'll need to prepare a fine meal of Tassie produce. Step out into a private leafy courtyard furnished with an alfresco dining setting and barbecue, where you'll be able to enjoy a glass of local wine after an enjoyable day sightseeing in beautiful Hobart.

Sleeping ten guests, it comprises five bedrooms—three king bedrooms, one with a queen bed and a fifth bedroom with two single beds. Only one bedroom is on the ground floor, while two sleek contemporary bathrooms serve each level.

Additional luxuries include timber study desks and WiFi throughout for remote working, internal laundry with a washer and dryer, a hydronic central heating system, and a carport for one vehicle.
During your stay, you and your group will have the entire house to yourselves. Please make yourselves at home!

Nestled in one of Hobart’s leafy neighbourhoods, ‘Devonshire House’ is perfectly located within a stroll of everything that is anything in Hobart. Step out the door and it’s only a 10 minute Hobart’s CBD with its colonial landmark buildings and boutique restaurants, Salamanca Markets and its cosmopolitan riverside cuisine and social scene as well as Constitution Docks and the ferry wharf to MONA. Closer to home is North Hobart’s trendy Elizabeth Street with its eclectic mix of restaurants, cafes and hipster bars which are all within a five minute wander of the doorstep. If you crave a wilderness hit, Mount Wellington is only a short drive away where the views over Hobart and the mighty Derwent River are truly breathtaking and there’s a host of seaside towns down south that are well-worth checking out. Elegant and luxurious, tranquil yet central, there’s no better place to base for the total Hobart lifestyle experience.
